ABSTRACT

Work-related stress and burnout have become a popular topic for research studies over the course of many years. The COVID-19 pandemic has also highlighted the importance of monitoring stress and well-being for workers in a variety of fields. The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between perceived stress, burnout, and job satisfaction among play therapists. We found a strong correlation between perceived stress and burnout among sample participants. We also found a strong negative relationship between these variables and job satisfaction. Based on our findings, we recommend several strategies that supervisors can implement when working with counselors-in-training in order to prevent stress and burnout for this specific therapist population. ABSTRACT

The cavernous sinus is one of the dural venous sinuses which plays an important role in venous outflow from the brain and eye sockets and in the regulation of intracranial circulation. We report a case of septic cavernous sinus thrombosis in a female patient with COVID-19. The disease often results in alterations of blood rheology, thrombosis in different organs, and septic complications. This article aims to raise awareness of healthcare professionals about the characteristics of COVID-19 that might cause septic cavernous sinus thrombosis in patients with severe comorbidities. Laboratory testing revealed severe comorbidities, including diabetes mellitus and liver cirrhosis caused by hepatitis C. They manifested with an impaired protein production in the liver and coagulation disorders. Systemic effects of SARS-CoV-2 on the vascular endothelium aggravated preexisting coagulation disorders and led to hemorrhage into retrobulbar tissue and clinical signs of septic cavernous sinus thrombosis, including swelling of the eyelids, bilateral exophthalmos, and ophthalmoplegia, followed by necrosis of the facial skin.Copyright © 2022, Dynasty Publishing House. ABSTRACT

This chapter describe a Storytelling and Narrative Medicine pilot study which focused on communication in therapeutic settings. The research was carried out by a group of Italian Health Care professionals (HCP) from Calambrone Institute for Rehabilitation (IRC), at the IRCCS Stella Maris Foundation, along with a group of parents of patients with disabilities. However, because of the Covid-19 outbreak in Italy, many of the participants found themselves in lockdown in their own homes with their children. To evaluate the efficacy of storytelling as a tool for emotional and communication support, the authors submitted to both the HCP and parents two original online surveys to get information on their current emotional state. The assessed areas were personal stress, the relationship with children and family members, and the relationship with colleagues and professionals. The chapter focuses on emotional and psychological consequences that lack of social and therapeutic interactions might have produced. This short but effective educational intervention gives skills and knowledge to structure one's feelings and thoughts in a narrative form, equipping the participants with the resources to perceive themselves and their life experiences as the elements of the story. ABSTRACT

A Psychotherapist Paints is a unique account of an internationally known psychotherapist and group analyst's struggle to bring together his psychological experience and his interests and talent as an artist. This book describes a body of painting that was responsive to a major existential challenge, the COVID-19 pandemic, but which also comes from deeply personal experience;the paintings are a mirror of life through the decades. These paintings, fifty of which are included here in full color, were mainly presented online to groups both small and large, who were invited to participate in a dialogue that became a vital part of the developing project. The value of this dialogue is reflected in the author's concept of the "artist's matrix", describing the social context in which an artist produces and presents their work. The paintings, together with the autobiographical narrative and the groups' generativity, combine to produce a moving testament to our times. Intrinsic to A Psychotherapist Paints is a question about what makes us creative and how creativity transforms our lives. The result is a work of both artistic and psychological power that will inspire psychotherapists, art psychotherapists and artists themselves, and will point to exciting new possibilities in all these fields. ABSTRACT

Introduction: The Coronavirus disease pandemic of 2019 (COVID-19) has had psychological implications and altered the public's well-being. In response to the pandemic, mental health practitioners play an essential role in mitigating the adverse psychological effects among the public. However, as the demand for mental health services increases, the responsibilities of mental health professionals are far stretched from what they can handle. Therefore, this research is aimed to explore the psychological impact of the pandemic on the mental health practitioners in Selangor and their coping strategies. Method: A total of 10 mental health practitioners who are clinical psychologists and counselors participated in the one-to-one interview. The collected data were analysed using thematic analysis. Result: The higher client loads, the transition to virtual therapy, burnout, and anxiety were found to have an impact on the mental health practitioners' well-being. Despite the challenging psychological impact, the mental health practitioners expressed a high level of satisfaction with their jobs, which they attributed to the supportive organisational culture and their intrinsic drive for selecting this profession. The mental health practitioners have reported that perceived organisational support, social support, and self-care approaches are effective coping mechanisms. Mindfulness skills such as breathing techniques and meditation are often practiced by the participants to calm the mind and body from a long day of work. Conclusion: The implication of the study contributes to breaking the stigmatisation of help seeking behaviour among the helping professions, as well as urging the policy makers, governments, and foundations to play a part in providing accessible and quality mental healthcare to the society. Background: With the outbreak and spread of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), health care workers are more prone to externalize psychological disorders and anxiety due to being in the front line of dealing with disease. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the perceived anxiety concerning COVID-19 pandemic with its related factors in health center personnel in Isfahan, Iran, in 2020. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 357 staff members of health centers in Isfahan. Data collection tools in this study included demographic questions and the standard questionnaire of Corona Disease Anxiety Scale (CDAS). Data were analyzed in SPSS software with a significance level of less than 0.05. Findings: The mean score of anxiety in health center employees was moderate (12.95 ± 6.40). Psychological symptoms were reported more in women (2.4 ± 12.9) than men (8.4 ± 3.3) (P < 0.001). These symptoms had a significant relationship with occupation (P = 0.030), marital status (P = 0.040), and shift work (P = 0.010). Conclusion: In line with the findings of the present study, women, nurses, and shift workers should be given the highest priority in intervention programs aimed at reducing anxiety among health care professionals. Given the critical role of female nurses in achieving the success in treating patients, as well as their vital role in improving health and well-being of their families, specific measures should be taken to address the conditions that might lead to their distress. © 2022, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences(IUMS). Background: The COVID-19 epidemic was a biological disaster that may cause or exacerbate burnout in healthcare professionals (HCPs). Our goal was to determine the impact of the long-term COVID-19 epidemic on burnout in front-line healthcare workers and the factors affecting it. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional survey on front-line HCPs' job burnout based on an online platform was conducted at Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences. The demographic characteristics, medical-work-related factors, and COVID-19 exposure were collected by the self-reported Farsi version of the Maslach burnout inventory questionnaire. Results: Out of 2100 sent questionnaires, 924 participants completed them (44% response rate) of which 280 were male (30.3%). Overall, 850(92%) respondents had a high level of emotional exhaustion, 872(94.4%) had a high level of depersonalization, and 112(12.1%) had a high reduced personal accomplishment. There was a significant relation between higher burnout levels with higher education levels, working in hospitals as clinical staff, and pre-hospital operational personnel as well as having direct contact with a significant number of COVID-19 Patients. A significant number of participants (94.2%) were in severe and moderate burnout levels. Conclusion: There was a significant increase in job burnout among front-line HCPs during the COVID-19 epidemic compared to former similar studies at the beginning of the epidemic and non-epidemic periods. It is recommended that in disaster management planning, especially in long-standing ones like COVID-19, the proper programs should be considered for increasing the resilience of HCPs. © 2023, Negah Institute for Scientific Communication. ABSTRACT

The problem addressed by this qualitative descriptive study was the challenges mental health providers experienced and their ability to continuously provide services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Burn out and secondary traumatic stress are common conditions experienced by mental health providers due to the nature of their work. Resilience plays an important role in a person's ability to effectively navigate through life's challenges, therefore, the purpose of this study was to understand and describe the lived experience of mental health professionals during a wide-spread crisis, specifically the COVID-19 pandemic through the lens of the resilience theory. A qualitative descriptive method and design were used for this study as this provided opportunity to collect and describe the lived experiences of mental health clinicians who provided mental health services throughout the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Participants were recruited through convenience sampling on social media. The research sample included 12 participants, 11 of which were female, and 1 male. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with the participants. The interviews were uploaded and transcribed through Descript transcription software and were manually coded and themed by the researcher. Three research questions were used for this study which included: How do mental health professionals describe the effects of COVID-19 on their delivery of services to their clients? How do mental health professionals cope with the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic? and What needs do mental health professionals identify to effectively continue the provision of services during the pandemic? The results of the study indicated that mental health professionals need to feel supported by their workplace which includes social support among employees as social interaction as coping was identified as important by the clinicians. Most participants did identify an increase in stress and burnout symptoms. Participants noted that they need additional trainingin telehealth to feel prepared to provide services through these virtual platforms. Employers are recommended to incorporate social support, and trainings. Future research will benefit from studying the long-term outcomes of the pandemic on the clinician's coping and resilience. The COVID-19 pandemic brought disruption to teaching and other aspects of workload in higher education. The current study sampled 126 counselor educators about workload, compassion satisfaction, burnout, and job satisfaction. Results indicated that faculty workload and administrative responsibilities increased for counselor educators during the pandemic without adequate compensation or support. ABSTRACT

Objective: to investigate factors associated with the SARS-CoV-2 infection among health professionals from university hospitals. Method: a multicenter, mixed approach study with concomitant incorporated strategy, carried out with 559 professionals in the quantitative stage, and 599 in the qualitative stage. Four data collection instruments were used, applied by means of an electronic form. The quantitative analysis was performed with descriptive and inferential statistics and the qualitative data were processed by means of content analysis. Results: the factors associated with the infection were as follows: performance of the RT-PCR test (p<0.001) and units offering care to COVID-19 patients (p=0.028). Having symptoms increased 5.63 times the prevalence of infection and adhering to social distancing most of the time in private life reduced it by 53.9%. The qualitative data evidenced difficulties faced by the professionals: scarcity and low quality of Personal Protective Equipment, work overload, physical distancing at work, inadequate processes and routines and lack of a mass screening and testing policy. Conclusion: the factors associated with the SARS-CoV-2 infection among health professionals were mostly related to occupational issues.

To analyze associations between work context and clinical manifestations of COVID-19 in health professionals. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, with health professionals from the northeast of Brazil, from the medical, nursing and physiotherapy categories from different areas of expertise. A Google Forms questionnaire was sent through social networks, gathering demographic, academic, work context, clinical manifestations and data related to testing for COVID-19 (the test performed was not specified) and whether the result confirmed infection active or presence of antibodies (categorized as positive). Pearson's chi-square test and multivariate binary logistic regression analysis were performed, with Wald's chi-square test, considering p-value <0.05, Odds Ratio and 95% confidence interval. Results: A total of 1,354 professionals agreed to participate in the study. Of these, 324 reported a positive test for COVID-19, with a prevalence of 23.9% (324/1,354). There was a statistical association between symptom onset and positive result (p=0.000). The work context characteristics related to the number of jobs, practice setting, contact with critically ill patients and employment in the capital were the independent variables associated with a positive result for COVID-19 (p<0.05). It was identified that 54.8% of the dependent variable can be related to the work sector, number of jobs, fever, loss of smell and taste. Conclusion: Health professionals from urban centers, hospitals, critical care units and those with more than one job are more affected by COVID-19, with the positive test result being closely related to the symptoms of fever, loss of smell and taste that are characteristic of the illness. © 2022 Departamento de Enfermagem/Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo. ABSTRACT

This dissertation research applied the Person-Centered Expressive Arts (PCEA) process developed by Natalie Rogers, Ph.D. (N. Rogers, 1993, 2011) to an online therapeutic setting for helping professionals who self-reported an increase in professional stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research explored the mental health needs of helping professionals, their resilience, PCEA as a therapeutic modality, and the facilitation of PCEA in an online environment. There was one primary research question and three sub-questions. The primary research question was, "What are the lived experiences of helping professionals who have self-reported an increase in professional stress during the COVID-19 pandemic when engaged in the PCEA process?" Sub-questions related to perceptions of professional stress, any impacts of PCEA on resilience, and perceptions of the online therapeutic environment. This mixed-methods research used case study and quantitative pre- and post-study measures to explore participants' professional quality of life (Pool, Stamm, 2009) and resilience (5x5RS, DeSimone et al., 2017b). PCEA sessions included meditation, sounding, drawing, painting, clay, collage, movement, writing, and verbal processing. Six helping professionals were identified through an email networking recruitment strategy. Participation included two semi-structured interviews (pre- and post-study), three sessions of online PCEA processes, completion of the pre- and post-study measures, and an optional debriefing meeting for participants to confirm the interpretation of data. All interviews and PCEA sessions were held separately with each participant through Zoom videoconferencing. This research included no group meetings. Thematic analysis and cross-case synthesis were used to analyze the research data. Cross-case findings were that participants: (1) experienced personal growth and a deeper connection with the self, (2) felt more deeply connected with others, (3) found that the person-centered approach was beneficial and led to a sense of safety and relational creativity, (4) experienced a deeper connection with everyday creativity, and (5) experienced a connection with spirituality through engagement in the PCEA process (n = 4). This research explored professional stress, resilience, and everyday creativity among helping professionals during three sessions of online PCEA processes. It suggests that PCEA is a valuable therapeutic modality to address the stressors of the COVID-19 pandemic and serves as an uplifting, engaging, and empowering practice that can be used to benefit individuals, groups, and communities. ABSTRACT

Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to "forced innovation" in the health education industry. High-quality training of the future rural health workforce is crucial to ensure a pipeline of rural health practitioners to meet the needs of rural communities. This paper describes the implementation of an online multidisciplinary teaching program focusing on integrated care and the needs of rural communities. Design/methodology/approach: A multidisciplinary teaching program was adapted to allow students from various disciplines and universities to learn together during the COVID-19 pandemic. Contemporary issues such as the National Aged Care Advocacy Program for Residential Aged Care COVID-19 Project were explored during the program. Findings: This case study describes how the program was adopted, how learning needs were met, practical examples (e.g. the Hand Hygiene Advocacy within a Rural School Setting Project), the challenges faced and solutions developed to address these challenges. Guidelines are proposed for remote multidisciplinary learning among health professional students, including those in medical, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, and allied health disciplines. Originality/value: The originality of this program centers around students from multiple universities and disciplines and various year levels learning together in a rural area over an extended period of time. Collaboration among universities assists educators in rural areas to achieve critical mass to teach students. In addition it provides experiences and guidance for the work integrated learning sector, rural health workforce practitioners, rural clinical schools, universities, policy makers, and educators who wish to expand rural online multidisciplinary learning. ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to discover factors enhancing the psychological resilience of nursing staff involved in the frontline of clinical care of Coronavirus Disease Patients. The research method is exploratory mixed method (qualitative - quantitative). In qualitative stage, Systematic and in-depth review of qualitative studies related to the subject and in quantitative stage, a questionnaire has been used to collect data. Based on the results of the study, three categories including mobilize public support for mental health care of nursing staff, fostering key resilience competencies and working life of nursing staff were identified and extracted as key categories affecting psychological resilience of nursing staff involved in the front line of crisis. In the quantitative stage, the validity and reliability of the structure for all components except public emotional support were confirmed. Also, in ranking the importance of the approved components, the competence of the head nurses in leading the nursing teams was in the first place. According to the changes of the nature of diseases and public health challenges, it is necessary to address problems such as psychological trauma of nursing staff that have a profound and lasting impact on their performance and quality of clinical care of patients, and to define and apply new standards in clinical care management appropriate to the nature and characteristics of future viral diseases Predicted by Scientists and International experts. Purpose: The infectious pandemics are generally accompanied by an often-overlooked impact it has on the psychology of the masses. Healthcare students and workers are expected to develop significant levels of stress as compared to the general population. The significance of this study is to assess the depression, anxiety and stress faced by the healthcare students that may lead to unfavourable effects on learning and their overall psychological health. Methods: This assessment was done by means of an anonymous, online, closed-ended questionnaire. DASS-21 scale was the primary instrument used for this purpose. The responses were recorded on a 4-point Likert scale. Results: The study had more male students, majority were between 21 and 23 years of age, asymptomatic and almost equal proportion of students from the fraternity of dentistry, medicine, pharmacy and nursing. Dental and pharmacy students were associated with lower stress than medical students whereas nursing students experienced higher anxiety as compared to medical students. Close contact with confirmed COVID-19 cases experienced higher stress and anxiety. Daily patient exposure was associated with significantly higher stress anxiety and depression. Conclusion: Based on the observations of the present study, a support program for psychological training for these health care students should be introduced. A pandemia do novo coronavírus colocou em alerta os sistemas de saúde, estabelecendo sentimentos de instabilidade e de medo. O trabalho é e importante pilar para o traçado de políticas públicas. Objetivo: analisar a contaminação pelo COVID-19 em profissionais de hospital de referência no Pará. Metodologia: Trata-se de estudo retrospectivo, quantitativo, observacional, com aplicação de série temporal no período de março de 2020 a março de 2022. Foram incluídos todos os servidores atuantes durante a pandemia, que apresentaram atestados médicos com diagnóstico de COVID, e/ou testagem positiva, ou atestados por suspeita de contaminação. O perfil de servidores foi analisado, explorando as variáveis sexo, idade, convivência ou não com parceiros, grau de escolaridade, cargo e setor; juntamente com a incidência de casos confirmados e incidência total (suspeitos e confirmados). Resultados: O total de afastamentos do trabalho devido ao diagnóstico de COVID-19 foi de 1.420 casos, mais 839 casos suspeitos; sendo que 173 trabalhadores apresentaram reincidência. A incidência foi maior nos meses de maio de 2020, março de 2021 e janeiro de 2022. Houve predominância do sexo feminino e da categoria de enfermagem. Setores administrativos e financeiros apresentaram maior porcentagem de contaminados durante a pandemia (73,40%), proporcionalmente ao quantitativo de servidores atuantes na lotação. Entretanto, foram servidores da assistência direta ao paciente que apresentaram maior porcentagem de reinfecção. Conclusão: Foi possível visualizar três ondas na distribuição temporal dos casos de COVID-19, com destaque para elevação nos primeiros meses de 2022. O declínio no diagnóstico de casos novos no hospital estudado após dois anos de pandemia pode representar esforços individuais e coletivos em resistir às dificuldades da conjuntura. É importante observar o comportamento da pandemia em distintas regiões do Brasil para atualização de estratégias de enfrentamento como um todo.


The new coronavirus pandemic has put health systems on alert, establishing feelings of instability and fear. Working is an important pillar for the design of public policies. Objective: to analyze the contamination by COVID-19 in professionals of a reference hospital in Para's State. Methodology: This is a retrospective, quantitative, observational study, with the application of a time series from March 2020 to March 2022. All civil servants working during the pandemic, who presented medical certificates with a diagnosis of COVID, and/or or positive test, or attestations for suspected contamination. The servants' profile was analyzed, exploring the variables sex, age, living or not with partners, education level, position and sector; along with the incidence of confirmed cases and total incidence (suspected and confirmed). Results: The total number of absences from work due to the diagnosis of COVID-19 was 1,420 cases, plus 839 suspected cases; 173 workers presented recurrence. The incidence was higher in the months of May 2020, March 2021 and January 2022. There was a predominance of females and the nursing category. Administrative and financial sectors had a higher percentage of people infected during the pandemic (73.40%), proportionally to the number of servers working in the capacity. However, it was direct patient care workers who had the highest percentage of reinfection. Conclusion: It was possible to visualize three waves in the temporal distribution of COVID-19 cases, with emphasis on an increase in the first months of 2022. The decline in the diagnosis of new cases in the hospital studied after two years of the pandemic may represent individual and collective efforts to resist to the difficulties of the situation. It is important to observe the behavior of the pandemic in different regions of Brazil to update coping strategies in a general scenery.


La nueva pandemia de coronavirus ha puesto en alerta a los sistemas de salud, estableciendo sentimientos de inestabilidad y miedo. El trabajo es un pilar importante para el diseño de políticas públicas. Objetivo: analizar la contaminación por COVID-19 en profesionales de un hospital de referencia en el Estado de Pará. Metodología: Se trata de un estudio retrospectivo, cuantitativo, observacional, con la aplicación de una serie de tiempo de marzo de 2020 a marzo de 2022. Todos los funcionarios que trabajaron durante la pandemia, que presentaron certificados médicos con diagnóstico de COVID, y/o o test positivo, o atestados por sospecha de contaminación. Se analizó el perfil de los funcionarios, explorando las variables sexo, edad, convivencia o no con la pareja, nivel de escolaridad, cargo y sector; junto con la incidencia de casos confirmados y la incidencia total (sospechosos y confirmados). Resultados: El número total de bajas laborales por diagnóstico de COVID-19 fue de 1.420 casos, más 839 casos sospechosos; 173 trabajadores presentaron recurrencia. La incidencia fue mayor en los meses de mayo de 2020, marzo de 2021 y enero de 2022. Hubo predominio del sexo femenino y de la categoría de enfermería. Los sectores administrativo y financiero presentaron mayor porcentaje de infectados durante la pandemia (73,40%), proporcionalmente al número de servidores que trabajaban en esa función. Sin embargo, fueron los trabajadores de atención directa al paciente los que presentaron el mayor porcentaje de reinfección. Conclusiones: Fue posible visualizar tres olas en la distribución temporal de los casos de COVID-19, destacándose un aumento en los primeros meses de 2022. La disminución en el diagnóstico de nuevos casos en el hospital estudiado después de dos años de pandemia puede representar esfuerzos individuales y colectivos para resistir a las dificultades de la situación. Es importante observar el comportamiento de la pandemia en diferentes regiones de Brasil para actualizar las estrategias de afrontamiento en un escenario general.

Resumo Objetivo Identificar as publicações que discorreram sobre a COVID-19 como acidente laboral e sua notificação pelos trabalhadores da saúde. Métodos A busca para esta scoping review, explorou literatura nacional e internacional, no período de 2020 e 2021, em inglês, português e espanhol, nas bases de dados do Portal Regional da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, na MEDLINE por meio do PubMed e no Portal de Periódicos da Capes empregou-se: Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL. Os textos foram importados para o EndNote, suprimido os duplicados e exportados para o aplicativo Rayyan, sendo feita a inclusão dos artigos em planilha Excel com os rótulos/etiquetas: COVID-19 como acidentes de trabalho e Notificação de COVID-19. Resultados Foram identificados 5.665 estudos, excluindo 2.088 duplicações, resultando 3.577 publicações, selecionadas por título e resumo. Destas, 3.280 não atendiam aos critérios de inclusão, resultando 297 artigos. Destes, 10 foram selecionados para análise completa do texto por tratarem da COVID-19 como acidente de trabalho e/ou notificação deste agravo pelos trabalhadores da saúde. Dois artigos foram excluídos por se tratar de revisão de literatura, permanecendo 8 como corpus do estudo. Conclusão Apesar de determinados países já reconhecerem a COVID-19 como doença ocupacional, alguns trabalhadores ainda apresentam dificuldades em relacionar a infecção pelo SARS-CoV-2 com o trabalho na assistência à saúde, caracterizando como acidente laboral. Todos devem ser orientados e capacitados quanto ao reconhecimento da COVID-19 como acidente laboral e notificar sua ocorrência, uma vez que já existe a definição da infecção como doença de notificação compulsória.

Métodos La búsqueda para esta scoping review exploró la literatura nacional e internacional, durante el período de 2020 a 2021, en inglés, portugués y español, en las bases de datos del Portal Regional de la Biblioteca Virtual de Salud, en MEDLINE a través de PubMed, y en el Portal de Periódicos de Capes se utilizó Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL. Los textos fueron importados a EndNote, se eliminaron los duplicados y se exportaron a la aplicación Rayyan, se incluyeron los artículos en una planilla de Excel con la clasificación/etiquetas: COVID-19 como accidente de trabajo y Notificación de COVID-19. Resultados Se identificaron 5.665 estudios, se excluyeron 2.088 duplicaciones, que dio como resultado 3.577 publicaciones, seleccionadas por título y resumen. De ellas, 3.280 no atendían los criterios de inclusión, por lo que se obtuvieron 297 artículos. De estos, 10 fueron seleccionados para análisis completo del texto porque trataban el COVID-19 como accidente de trabajo o notificación de este daño por parte de los trabajadores de la salud. Se excluyeron dos artículos porque se trataban de revisión de literatura, por lo cual permanecieron ocho como corpus de estudio. Conclusión Aunque determinados países ya reconocieron el COVID-19 como una enfermedad ocupacional, algunos trabajadores aún tienen dificultad de relacionar la infección por SARS-CoV-2 con el trabajo en la atención a la salud, caracterizándolo como un accidente laboral. Todos deben ser orientados y capacitados sobre el reconocimiento del COVID-19 como accidente laboral y notificar su ocurrencia, dado que ya existe la definición de la infección como enfermedad de notificación obligatoria.

Methods The search for this scoping review explored national and international literature, between 2020 and 2021, in English, Portuguese and Spanish, in the databases of the Regional Portal of the Virtual Health Library, in MEDLINE through PubMed and in Capes Journal Portal used: Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL. The texts were imported into EndNote, duplicates were removed and exported to the Rayyan application, and the articles were included in an Excel spreadsheet with the labels: COVID-19 as injuries at work and Notification of COVID-19. Results A total of 5665 studies were identified, excluding 2088 duplicates, resulting in 3577 publications, selected by title and abstract. Of these, 3280 did not meet the inclusion criteria, resulting in 297 articles. Of these, 10 were selected for full text analysis because they dealt with COVID-19 as an injury at work and/or notification of this condition by health workers. Two articles were excluded because they were a literature review, remaining 8 as the study's corpus. Conclusion Although certain countries already recognize COVID-19 as an occupational injury, some workers still have difficulties in relating the SARS-CoV-2 infection with work in health care, characterizing it as an occupational injured. Everyone should be guided and trained regarding the recognition of COVID-19 as an occupational injury and notify its occurrence, since the definition of the infection as a notifiable disease already exists.

Resumo Objetivo Analisar os fatores associados à restrição do acompanhamento de lactentes que nasceram prematuros e/ou baixo peso durante a pandemia da COVID-19 e a percepção de mães e profissionais de saúde quanto a essa realidade. Métodos Pesquisa de método misto com delineamento paralelo convergente, realizada com 14 mães de lactentes que nasceram prematuros e/ou baixo peso acompanhados no ambulatório de follow-up de uma maternidade em um município da Paraíba, e quatro profissionais de saúde desse serviço. A coleta de dados foi realizada no período de junho a julho de 2020, concomitantemente, em fonte de dados secundários, constituída de todos os 140 prontuários dos respectivos lactentes para abordagem quantitativa, por meio de entrevista semiestruturada, para abordagem qualitativa. A análise quantitativa ocorreu por estatística descritiva e inferencial, e a qualitativa, conforme análise temática indutiva. Resultados Houve associação significativa entre a idade dos lactentes e a restrição do seu acompanhamento no follow-up durante a pandemia, com priorização do atendimento presencial dos menores de seis meses, contatos pontuais com os familiares, via ligação telefônica ou aplicativo digital, e lacunas na atualização do calendário vacinal dos que tiveram o acompanhamento interrompido. Isso gerou insatisfação das mães e receio de prejuízos ao desenvolvimento dos lactentes. Também não houve continuidade do cuidado desses na unidade básica de saúde. Conclusão Houveram restrições no acompanhamento dos lactentes nascidos prematuros no serviço de follow-up durante a pandemia, gerando insatisfação materna e receio de prejuízos ao desenvolvimento de seus filhos.


Resumen Objetivo Analizar los factores asociados a la restricción del seguimiento de lactantes que nacieron prematuros o de bajo peso durante la pandemia de COVID-19 y la percepción de madres y profesionales de la salud respecto a esta realidad. Métodos Estudio de método mixto con diseño paralelo convergente, realizado con 14 madres de lactantes que nacieron prematuros o de bajo peso atendidos en consultorios externos de follow-up de una maternidad en un municipio del estado de Paraíba, y cuatro profesionales de la salud de este servicio. La recopilación de datos fue realizada en el período de junio a julio de 2020, simultáneamente en fuente de datos secundarios, compuesta por las 140 historias clínicas de los respectivos lactantes para el enfoque cuantitativo, por medio de entrevista semiestructurada, para el enfoque cualitativo. El análisis cuantitativo se llevó a cabo por estadística descriptiva e inferencial, y el cualitativo mediante análisis temático inductivo. Resultados Hubo relación significativa entre la edad de los lactantes y la restricción de su seguimiento en el follow-up durante la pandemia, con priorización de atención presencial a los menores de seis meses, contactos puntuales con los familiares, vía llamada telefónica o aplicación digital, y vacíos en la actualización del calendario de vacunación de los que tuvieron el seguimiento interrumpido. Esto generó insatisfacción de las madres y temor de perjudicar el desarrollo de los lactantes. Tampoco hubo continuidad del cuidado de estos en la unidad básica de salud. Conclusión Hubo restricciones en el seguimiento de los lactantes nacidos prematuros en el servicio de follow-up durante la pandemia, lo que generó insatisfacción materna y temor de perjudicar el desarrollo de sus hijos.


Abstract Objective To analyze the factors associated with restricting the follow-up of infants who were born premature and/or low birth weight during the COVID-19 pandemic and mothers' and health professionals' perception regarding this reality. Methods This is mixed methods research with a parallel convergent design, carried out with 14 mothers of infants who were born premature and/or low birth weight, followed up at a follow-up outpatient clinic of a maternity hospital in a municipality in Paraíba, and four health professionals from this service. Data collection was carried out from June to July 2020, concomitantly, in a secondary data source, consisting of all 140 medical records of the respective infants for a quantitative approach, through a semi-structured interview, for a qualitative approach. Quantitative analysis was performed using descriptive and inferential statistics, and qualitative analysis, according to inductive thematic analysis. Results There was a significant association between infant age and the restriction of their follow-up during the pandemic, with prioritization of one-to-one care for children under six months of age, occasional contacts with family members, via phone call or digital application, and gaps in updating the vaccination schedule of those whose follow-up was interrupted. This generated dissatisfaction on the part of mothers and fear of harm to the development of infants. There was also no continuity of care for these in the Basic Health Unit. Conclusion There were restrictions on follow-up of premature infants in the follow-up service during the pandemic, generating maternal dissatisfaction and fear of damage to the development of their children.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an exceptional impact on the healthcare profession, and in particular, on the mental health and wellbeing of healthcare workers. The Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) has been working on ways to prioritize the mental health of their members while increasing advocacy efforts. Conducting a national survey on mental health and interviewing medical radiation technologists (MRTs) highlighted the challenges that exist while also informing which support system components are most needed to improve wellbeing. The purpose of the research is to share the lived experience of Canadian MRTs in relation to their mental health during the pandemic. It adds to the knowledge gained from the survey by exploring in depth accounts of what MRTs felt and experienced during COVID-19. Understanding this challenging time period may aid in developing additional resources and support for MRTs in the workplace. The overall message in healthcare should be, optimize your wellbeing and your patients will be taken care of too. Recommendations to foster this message includes empowering MRTs to advocate for their mental health and wellbeing, promoting timely and adequate supports, monitoring the mental health of our professional landscape and welcoming others to join the conversation. This paper examines what mental health supports are recommended by the MRTs who were interviewed, and the information gathered from the CAMRT Mental Health of Medical Radiation Technologists in Canada 2021 Survey.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed healthcare staff to mental distress. Given the importance of applying effective strategies to cope with stress caused by COVID-19, this study aimed to assess the stress-coping strategies of Iranian healthcare providers. This cross-sectional study was performed through a web-based survey. Data collection was done online using a demographic data questionnaire and the short form of Endler and Parker's coping inventory. The mean scores of task-oriented strategies (27.06 ± 5.13) were higher than avoidance-oriented (19.42 ± 5.77) and emotion-oriented strategies (18.45 ± 5.76), and the healthcare workers mainly used task-oriented styles to cope with COVID-19-related stress. There was a significant difference between the score of task-oriented strategy in terms of age groups (P < 0.001), work experience (P = 0.018), level of education (P < 0.001), having children (P = 0.002), and type of hospital (P = 0.028). The score of task-oriented strategies was lower in employees who were in the age group of 20-30 years and had less than 10 years of work experience, and it was higher in employees who had children, worked in private hospitals, and had a master's degree or higher. The score of emotion-oriented strategies in the age group of 51-60 years was significantly lower than other age groups (P < 0.01) and was significantly higher in employees with a bachelor's degree than those with a master's degree or higher (P = 0.017). There was no significant difference between the scores of avoidance-oriented strategies and any socio-demographic variables. According to the findings of this study, young and less experienced employees were more inclined to utilize emotion-oriented coping styles. Therefore, considering appropriate training programs for these employees to apply effective coping strategies is extremely important.
